The Blessing of a Soft Life

The Blessing of a Soft Life

Faith reveals itself most profoundly in moments of clarity, when divine perspective illuminates the path we've walked. This is one such moment.

Recently, I fell into the habit of listening to Reddit posts on YouTube. What began as simple entertainment transformed into revelation as story after story of struggle washed over me. The truth struck like lightning: I've lived what many would call a soft life.

For those unfamiliar, a soft life isn't about wealth—it's about a foundation of stability, comfort, and safety that many never experience. It's the privilege of facing life's challenges with resources rather than empty hands.

I am not wealthy by traditional standards, but my journey has been cushioned in ways I failed to recognize. As a tour guide, security guide, and airline gate agent, my work provided not just income, but dignity and structure without crushing pressure. While others clock endless hours in punishing conditions, I've had the luxury of people-watching, walk them around, and help people catch flights.

Growing up, I complained about my mother's absence, blind to the abundance surrounding me. I never knew hunger's pain. From age four, I thrived in extracurricular activities and looked forward to summer camps that expanded my world. Especially living is a single parent household with four siblings. When classmates dreaded permission slips knowing their parents might sacrifice meals to afford the fee, I stood oblivious to a reality that wasn't mine.

These stories from others haven't just humbled me—they've awakened me. For years, I embraced the gift of being present as my son grew, building a foundation for his future while many parents missed precious moments under the weight of survival. When I began substitute teaching during his fourth-grade year, I exercised a freedom of choice that remains a distant dream for countless others.

Even in crisis—the night I found myself without a home—my safety net appeared immediately. My brother's couch became sanctuary after just half a night in uncertainty. My family has always stood ready with open doors and open hearts, offering not just shelter but the dignity of belonging.

My village may not gather daily, but their presence in moments of need has been unwavering. This isn't luck—it's a divine orchestration that demands recognition and gratitude.

As I approach 40, this awakening doesn't shame me for its timing. Instead, it propels me forward with purpose. Awareness doesn't devalue the journey—it infuses it with meaning.

Have I faced struggles? Absolutely. But through every storm, the Creator ensured I never weathered it alone. This truth isn't just comfort—it's power.

A Challenge That Will Transform You

I challenge you to stand boldly in the light of honest reflection. Strip away the veil of comparison that blinds you to your blessings. What you call normal might be someone else's miracle.

Health isn't guaranteed—it's granted. Aging isn't inevitable—it's a victory many never claim.

As each year deepens my wisdom, I now see every struggle as a stepping stone, every lesson as a launching pad. The son I once worried would limit my future has become my greatest testament—a young man whose potential will reshape the world in ways I'm only beginning to comprehend.

Your blessings aren't just gifts—they're responsibilities. Your soft moments aren't weaknesses—they're preparation.

What blessings have you overlooked? More importantly, what will you do with them now that you see them clearly?

The answer to that question doesn't just change your perspective. It changes everything.

Sacred Spaces: How Setting Boundaries Opens Doors to God’s Best

Setting Boundaries for Healing and Growth In a world that constantly demands our attention, energy, and presence, setting boundaries isn’t just helpful—it’s essential. Recently, I made a decision that some might find difficult to understand: I chose to take a break from dating. Not because relationships are inherently problematic, but because I recognized that, in this season of my life, they were becoming a distraction from what God is calling me to focus on: healing, purpose, and personal growth. The Wisdom of Seasons Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” Too often, we rush through life’s seasons, eager to experience everything at once. Yet there is profound wisdom in recognizing where you are and honoring the season God has placed you in. For me, this is a season of rebuilding and restoration—and I’m learning that setting boundaries around that intention isn’t weakness; it’s wisdom. The Busyness Trap I’ve no...

The Courage to Begin Again: Embracing New Chapters at Any Age

There's something about milestone birthdays that causes us to pause and take inventory. As I recently crossed the threshold of a significant age—one of those big, round numbers that society tends to mark with both celebration and quiet contemplation—I found myself making a decision that surprised even me: I chose to begin again. When Certainty Makes Way for Possibility Beginning again isn't always planned. Sometimes it arrives after loss or disappointment. Other times, it emerges from a growing realization that the life you've built, while perhaps comfortable or expected, isn't the one your soul longs for. For me, it was the latter. Despite achievements and stability in certain areas, I recognized a quiet but persistent voice within me saying, "There's more. This isn't all." Not more stuff, not more accolades—but more alignment with who I truly am and what brings me genuine peace. So I made the decision to start clean in multiple areas of my life. New ...
